About Us: The Sheren Leadership

Every one of our loyal team members makes a vital contribution. To give you a quick glimpse of our in-house expertise and experience, we highlight the following members of Sheren’s Leadership Team.

Jerry Sheren, President 
Role: Responsible for providing a vision for Sheren Plumbing and Heating, Inc. and for overseeing the entire business, including operations, sales, marketing and customer relations.

Areas of Expertise: Extensive experience in all facets of HVAC and related fields; provides a vision with the step-by-step action plans to achieve it; offers a straight-forward and honest business approach; strongly committed to his employees, their families, customers and the local community.

Background: Over 30 years ago, Jerry started Sheren Heating & Cooling, Inc. after serving four years in the US Air Force Civil Engineering Division and working another nine years for various HVAC companies in Massachusetts and Michigan. He started as a one-man show and gradually built the company to where it stands today. Jerry’s licensure's include: Master’s Plumbing License, Plumbing Contractor’s License, State of Michigan Mechanical License and a State of Michigan Boiler License.

Jerry was not only born and raised in Northern Michigan, but also comes from a long line of Northern Michigan residents – including his great grandparents, who were among the original homesteaders. Jerry has two grown daughters who also live in Traverse City. He enjoys woodworking and spending time at his hunt club in Trout Lake.

Jerry Magee, General Manager 
Role:
Responsible for day-to-day operations of the company including Design Build Sale and Project Management.

Areas of Expertise:
Mechanical and plumbing design and layout, sales, problem solving, identifying energy savings and customer relations.

Background: Jerry offers 29-plus years experience in the mechanical business. His experience includes 12 years in Design Build Sale and Development and 17 years in technical service and various management positions. Jerry has completed numerous business and technical training certifications; three years of specialized HVAC college; and holds a journeyman plumbing license. Jerry lives in Traverse City and enjoys boating, hunting, fishing, hockey, mountain biking, camping, baseketball, golfing and most any activities with his family.

Adam LaFleche, Residential Sales Manager 
Role:
Responsible for estimating residential installations and energy saving projects. Manages residential new construction and replacement crews as well as helps homeowners make energy-conscious buying decisions to meet their lifestyle needs.

Areas of Expertise:
System design and layout; identifying and developing energy savings opportunities; and customer relations.

Background:
Adam has been working in the Residential Plumbing and Heating business since his return to Michigan from Active Duty service with the United States Air Force. He has completed formal training on system design and performance as well as home energy saving improvements. Adam specializes in Geothermal and Hybrid® heating applications. He is certified by Carrier as a “Healthy Air Expert” specializing in Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). He has also attended LEED® training by U.S. Green Building Council. Adam lives in Traverse City. He enjoys golfing with his wife, hunting and fishing.

Don Kastenschmidt, Service Department Manager 
Role: Responsible for managing the service department team, providing manufacturer training for technicians and installers, plus ensuring customer satisfaction.

Areas of Expertise: Problem-solving and solution focus, as well as continuous attention to customer relationships.

Background: Don has spent the past 14 years of his career at Sheren, serving in various roles. His most recent assignment (since 2004) has been as Service Manager. He has been a local resident since 1980 and has two children. Don enjoys being outdoors, camping, boating and snowmobiling.

Steve McDonald, Professional Engineer
Role: Responsible for signing and sealing Sheren’s engineering drawings for the State of Michigan Bureau of Construction Codes approval.

Areas of Expertise: Engineering of heating, ventilation, cooling and plumbing/piping systems for commercial and industrial applications; performing engineering calculations to determine heating/cooling loads for system design; specifying HVAC equipment such as pumps, compressors, air handlers, fans, etc.; and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all applicable codes and standards for the HVAC industry.

Background: Steve has worked with Sheren since 1996 in various capacities and offers 20 years of engineering experience (both in the HVAC/Design-Build and automotive sectors). He is a licensed Professional Engineer with the State of Michigan; earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University and has completed various training sessions on team building and communications. He enjoys golf, reading in the areas of economics and politics, and enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and son.
